About this deal

A special edition of this classic picture book to celebrate its 40th anniversary - with a glow-in-the-dark cover! Repetition is used constantly throughout the text, "dark" is repeated perhaps the most, its repetition is effective as it really helps to build atmosphere and set the nightime scene.

The class teacher reads the story aloud to the children and then uses a range of techniques to assess their learning. But what started as a lovely dream suddenly gets a bit scary when the dinosaurs start chasing the skeletons - and these dinosaurs have roller skates! The big skeleton and the little skeleton do their best to put him back together, but when he says ‘Woof’ it comes out all muddled. Allan Ahlberg has published over 100 children's books and with his late wife Janet, created such award-winning children's picture books, including Peepo!

The short catchy song is a great way for the reader to learn what bones are connected to what in the body. The Funnybone stories by Allan Ahlberg are wonderful yellow coloured books about the tales of three skeletons. The characters also speak with speech bubbles so while the adult reads the more complicated text aloud the children can have a go at reading the simple, humorous phrases the skeletons say. Little: The smaller skeleton brother (who was without a hat), but came up with many ideas for the crew to do in every episode.Allan Ahlberg has published over 100 children's books and with his late wife Janet, created many award-winning children's picture books, including Peepo! The VHS tape was also released in Bulgaria and Australia, respectively by the companies Proxima Entertainment and ABC Video (but in the former case, it was dubbed into Bulgarian). The author uses ‘word repetition’ throughout the book to make it enjoyable to the reader and also to make it humorous.

In the first ever Funnybones book, we are introduced to the wonderful humour and fun of the much-loved series.

Janet and Alan Ahlberg introduce the characters in a lovely way, using repetition and starting off with the local environment of the skeletons and then eventually introducing the skeletons themselves. The children really enjoyed the story and where able to notice the repetitive language being used in the story.
