This is an iconic Sports Day event for good reason. It’s great fun, challenges multiple skill sets at once and is relatively easy to prepare for. Although the winner can be determined just by watching to see who crosses the finish line first, using a stopwatch and writing down the time achieved by the winner means that you can have several rounds rather than trying to have all of your children race at once. That way, the overall winner can be announced at the end after each class or year group have had a chance to compete. 3-Legged Race To get ready for your race, you’ll need straight 100-metre lines marked out for each runner, a stopwatch and a way of starting the race - that could be a starting pistol, a megaphone or just whichever member of staff has the loudest voice! Encourage children to challenge themselves to see how long they can keep their hula hoop up - if you wanted to make this a more competitive event, you could time children using a stopwatch to find the strongest hula hoop enthusiast. Your competitors need to try to run the race without losing their egg from their spoon. The first person to reach the finish line with their egg safely sat on their spoon is the winner.
