Internal versus external hydration sleeve:While the Sirrus 36 has an internal hydration sleeve, the Kyte 36 has an external one. An external hydration sleeve would be preferable for a couple of reasons. Having your hydration bladder on the outside of the main compartment means that your gear is protected from spills. If your hydration reservoir bursts, and external hydration sleeve will mean that your gear will stay dry. Also, an external hydration sleeve makes it easier for you to refill the reservoir.

While the Sirrus 36 is newer than the Kyte 36, its features are not all that different or that much better. But it does have a more feminine style, and will fit shorter females better than the Kyte 36.These bags are also made to last, which is greatly appreciated in a modern age where most things seem to be built to be replaced. You also get sleeping pad straps at the base of the Kyte 36 that, as the name suggest, are really useful for attaching bulky sleep mats, or they can be completely removed to reduce weight if not required. An adjustable sternum strap helps to equalize the load and features a built-in emergency whistle.

Side tension straps are linked to the hipbelt. By tightening these straps you can stabilise the load but reduce the hipbelt flexibility. Where balance is critical tightening them can help you feel more secure. However, if you are striding out over easy terrain it’s better to loosen these straps to allow full hip flexibility. An accurate torso measurement will get you the correct BP size then you will have to make adjustments to the velcro suspension system to dial in your vertical fit.
