A rather basic selection of white balance features are on offer, with an auto mode plus 2 daylight, 3 fluorescent and one incandescent preset. The Canon D10 is the clear winner in our performance tests: it had better color, lower noise, higher sharpness and a more effective image stabilization system.

The corners of photos were fairly blurry in wide-angle shots and the centre wasn’t razor-sharp, but detail levels were the right side of acceptable. Movies are saved in AVI format using QuickTime Motion JPEG compression, and are captured using a dedicated Movie record button which is separate from that used to trigger still image capture. It’s waterproof down to three metres, and suitable for snorkelling as well as general beach use, skiing and wet weather. We found that the movies captured by the Z33WP were not particularly sharp: the captured movies looked blocky, with little detail and jerky motion. I originally considered a more expensive camera and, on the other hand, thought about purchasing a couple of cheap disposibles.

In terms of hue, the Z33WP performed about average, pushing cyans toward blue, some oranges toward yellow, and some reds toward orange. Easily the most endearing camera of the bunch, the Fujifilm Z33WP doesn't just look good, it feels great to hold and use.

That's enough that the camera could accompany you while scuba diving, but not enough for anything deeper. The top two control the zoom, and these are poorly placed; it is very hard to control the zoom while holding the camera in one hand. In this section, we are going to illustrate the Casio EX-Z33 and Fujifilm J30 side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. On the back of the Fujifilm Z33WP, the rubber-covered button matrix is more beautiful than functional, casting off the standard four-way navigation cluster, forcing the four arrows into its ten-button, two-row matrix. If you take in mind that this isn’t a Canon SLR the results will be pleasing for snap shots and making small prints, I give it a th umbs up for its intended purpose, outdoor nature type shooting and 3X optical zoom will help framing up the shots. Color: The Fujifilm FinePix Z33WP pushes strong reds quite a bit, and also oversaturates strong blues and oranges a little. The photos and performance from the Z33WP are not the best, though, so consider this camera only if you need the waterproofing and you're on a budget.

So whether you’re surfing the waves, cycling through alpine forests or swooshing down the ski slopes, the FinePix Z33WP won’t let you down. The soft, rubbery rise gives the only thumbgrip on the Fujifilm Z33WP, and to achieve that you have to rest your thumb on the upper right corner of the LCD, covering part of the view. We saw the same pattern across the zoom range of the Z33WP: moderate sharpness in the center of the image, but very poor sharpness at the edges. This lack of sharpness didn't seem to be caused by chromatic aberration: we saw only small amounts of the characteristic color fringing that is caused by the lens diffracting colors of light to different amounts, and this fringing was mostly consistent across the range. The camera is good for anyone taking vacation pictures, friends and family pictures, and memory pictures. As well as being linked to the autofocus system, the Fujifilm Z33WP's face detection function offers automatic red-eye removal. It actually does a lot more than trim, though, it allows you to edit the image's brightness, contrast, and color, as well as several other effects. A very basic selection of image editing tools are on offer: you can trim, re-size, rotate and remove red-eye from images, but there is no way to edit or correct colors. Is the extra optical oomph worth the upgrade over the iPhone 15 Pro’s 3x (77mm equivalent) telephoto?
