I liked the fairytales themselves, because they were the more traditional verisions, not as sparkled up as in other versions I've read. If your child loves Disney and their princesses such as Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty, or if they love stories about giants and spells, this children's book would make the perfect gift for them! Seamus Heaney’s deeply felt interpretation, widely acknowledged as the greatest Beowulf translation of modern times, is presented in parallel with the Old English verse in this fabulous Folio edition.

Children enjoy the playful way their expectations are turned on their head and these books make an excellent starting point to stimulate lots of their own ideas and writing. The second half makes a much better effort at global inclusiveness, though it still leaves a lot to be desired as a survey. Abdullah dreams of adventure, but dreams can be big trouble in Castle in the Air, Diana Wynne Jones’s delightful sequel to Howl’s Moving Castle. They'll also star in a brand new fairy tale at the end – made just for them, with an extra touch of magic!

Even as a child I was far too much of a cynic to garner pleasure from anything other than realistic fiction, save for a few exceptions. Classic fairy tale books feature traditional stories such as Cinderella or Goldilocks and the Three Bears. A magnificent collection, which manages to effectively capture the 'voice' of the various places the tales are gathered from. Fairy tales are such a fun way to tell a story: they’ve been evolving so long, so they’re flexible, and they’re so familiar that when you make a change, it’s obvious what that change was and what you want to highlight. The book is a collection of stories from all over the world, all of which based around a female character. His romantic stories rank among the greats, including Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Beauty and the Beast.

Neil Gaiman’s raucous comedy Anansi Boys bursts into the spotlight in an extraordinary Folio collector’s edition, filled with vibrant images by artist Francis Vallejo and introduced by Afrofuturist Nalo Hopkinson. Fairy tales are based upon oral traditions and convey deeper meaning under the guise of enchanting tales. This story book has only a few pictures for each story, but the stories all have a little bit of a twist in comparison to the movies most children have seen. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. The most interesting ones are those that make some bold, baffling, and just weird aesthetic turn, like having Cinderella conceal her beauty under a head of mangy skins, or when a cursed wife gives birth to a hideous baby riding a goat and waving a wooden spoon. Si te gustan los cuentos de hadas pero quieres una versión más oscura y que te de que pensar (sin el típico final " felices para simepre") lo recomiendo mucho.

However, if you do have a fondness for fairy tales, check out this version as the stories are more reflective of their original versions and the illustrations are beautiful. While I am not sure if I would use the word feminist to describe the collection, the tales are mostly woman centered, with women as heroines or as a major role. Some of the illustrations are gorgeous like: The Twelve Dancing Princesses, The Princes and the pea and Rumplestiltskin while others are simply dreadful like Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and The Snow Queen.Perrault Charles Perrault was the first of the great fairy tale authors, writing in France in the 18th C. His work has gathered critical acclaim from all quarters and he passionately believes that you are never too young, too old, or too wise to enjoy and to learn from these stories. The illustrations are gorgeous and in a very uncommon media: colored pencil with water colors on top.
