About this deal

This book literally beckons you to sit and have a cup of tea, cozy up on the couch and with the radio playing softly in the background ~~ and this book will take you away. This is firstly the story of Judith Dunbar but also tells the story of a wonderful family the Carey-Lewises. I loved every part of it -- the girl herself, her family and friends, the country house, the romances, the vicarious travel to Ceylon -- and to an era that will never come again. All of this 'I wandered lonely as a cloud' musing brings me to my latest read which I read as part of my Rosamund Pilcher seasons readalong over on Instagram.

Last of all, as the school clock chimed a quarter to five, there came, through the open door, two girls, Judith Dunbar and Heather Warren, both fourteen years old, both dressed in navy-blue coats and rubber boots, and with woollen hats pulled down over their ears. You can also read about his life in War Child to War Horse, a collaborative biography with Maggie Fergusson. It was depressing to contemplate Judith having to join the ranks of those wet, goody-goody creatures who thought themselves so grand.

Video review available in Week 8: Feb 19 – Feb 25, 2023, weekly book reviews on Steph's Romance Book Talk ( https://www. To say goodbye to the house and the garden, and Amah and Joseph the butler, and the old Tamil who tended the garden. The air hums with what could have been, and they're tempted by what they could have right now, if only for one weekend. An affluent but warm and welcoming family, the Carey-Lewis’s will offer their beautiful dwelling on the Cornish coast as another home-away-from-home for Judith. At Saint Ursula's, her friendship with Loveday Carey-Lewis sweeps her into the privileged, madcap world of the British aristocracy, teaching her about values, friendship, and wealth. it’s a book filled with nostalgia and the most lovely conversations from a time when people made time for each other and truly engaged in conversation and spending time with each other. Whilst it is Judith and the Carey-Lewis's who are central to the story, it is pleasing that not all the action is wholly centred on them. The separation stretches on for years, and Judith grows through her teen years with the help of new-found friends, the affluent Carey-Lewises, but mostly survives due to her own indomitable spirit.

Michael's books have been translated into many languages including Chinese, Bulgarian and Hungarian, Hebrew and Japanese. Her father works for a British company abroad, and the practice of sending older children to school and leaving them in the care of relatives is not unusual. One of the UK’s best-loved authors and storytellers, Michael was appointed Children’s Laureate in 2003, a post he helped to set up with Ted Hughes in 1999.Set in the 1930s, Judith Dunbar's parents are moving to Singapore leaving Judith to go to boarding school. In a season that changes all of them, the brilliance of family love overshadows even the valley of heartache as the Baxters draw closer to God and each other. It’s been 20 years since they graduated, and the memory of a shared kiss all those years ago still begs the question - what if?

It was surrounded by a Tarmac playground and a tall wrought-iron fence, and presented a fairly forbidding face to the world. Pilcher takes on a voice in COMING HOME that makes World War II seem more bearable to read about, and all crisis's easier to deal with. It sees Cara reflect on how her family, home and culture have shaped her life and gives a profound glimpse into her world. Colombo was, the spacious bungalow on the Galle Road, with a verdant garden, separated from the Indian Ocean by the single-track railway line that ran south to Galle.

Rosamunde Pilcher's worlds, as always, are filled with people who you would love to meet and consider friends. While I was reading this book, I thought of so many things I wanted to say and now I haven't the time. Perhaps it is the sum of all those human stories (and there are a lot of stories and characters in this one). Along the way, secrets are revealed and the truth about the Baxter Family history is finally made known. Coming Home and Shell Seekers (which I also recently reread on audio) and Rosamunde Pilcher's masterpieces.
