About this deal

The narrator did an excellent job of helping breathe more life into these well developed characters. The picture-postcard location for this brand spanking new series has shades resembling that of Midsomer Murders; it's stunning, tight-knit but with a sinister edge to it.

But all the leads came to nothing while her team became more frustrated with the second and third interviews they were holding. Just as she’s leaving work for the day, Detective Inspector Hillary Greene is stopped by her boss and handed what he knows will make her happy – a murder investigation. They are gentle crime/detective stories with no gratuitous gore or violence or excessive suspense, so an easy and enjoyable read. Mel appreciates Hillary's first-rate ability to solve her cases, and isn't happy about her harassment by the officers from York. In this one, there is a murder in the village near where Hillary Greene lives, and not only does she get involved in that investigation, but her superiors involve her in another case, which proves to be very dangerous for her. Then there is Hillary's own crusade to expose a dirty cop and a surprise happening around the huge secret she lives with herself. Just as she’s about to make a breakthrough, everything is turned upside down by a fatal development in another case she is working on . maybe i was spotted c recently with a narrator who had huge capacity for different voices Happy I went back to reading it.

It’s an elaborate operation involving two police forces; Hillary is involved as is her boss, her team, and several other police officers from their office. The plot is relatively simple, two amateurs running around asking questions to find a murderer and break up a dog napping ring. DI Greene enjoys a close working relationship and friendship with her immediate superior DCI Phillip Mallow, also known as ‘Mellow Mallow’.At the same time, her new boss’ boss Superintendent Jerome Raleigh has his sights set on capturing one of Oxfordshire’s major crime bosses, Fletcher. It's a captivating and compulsively readable mystery with plenty of tension and intrigue throughout it's pages, but one of my highlights was the atmosphere and how well the author portrayed the often claustrophobic nature of small-town life and the tendency to overestimate how well you know someone who is an inhabitant of the local area. Murder in the Village sees our regular cast of characters thrown off-kilter by the plots interesting little twists. The local police inspector may be incompetent, but luckily there always seems to be a nearby amateur sleuth with twinkling eyes who has a few theories. One murder and the missing dogs make two people decided to solve the mysteries until they could continue quiet living in Little Challham.

This is the fourth in the DI Greene series and for the first time, there feel like there's real jeopardy around. Not only does it solve a complete murder mystery in each book, but there are several intriguing back stories going on throughout the the saga to make you want to pick up the next installment.

As the author very kindly states at the very beginning of the story, no dogs were harmed, and can confirm that this is definitely the case. Maggie has lived in Provence long enough to know that village life is built on gossip and nurtured resentments for the least perceived slight—especially from an outsider. Belinda has invested in several local businesses as she understands the importance of village commerce, so when a suspicious dead body is discovered in the New Inn, the watering hole in which she is a stakeholder, she is of course concerned about both the murder and its impact on the pub. There is no lack of suspects, though and Greene's team is going to have to sift and sort through a lot of lies and secrets.
