About this deal
I’ve always found Aveyard’s tendency toward detailed exploration of intricate politics, plot movements, and character motivations to be misplaced in YA, weighing down what her audience would expect to be a more breezy, fun read.
I couldn’t decide what I disliked more, the attempts at levity and humor (when they weren’t even needed because the “telling” style of writing renders everything so bland, making frivolity the last thing I needed), the few tacky attempts at making the prose more flowery or the melodramatic supposed-to-be-serious lines that were incredibly incongruous to the other, normal and sadly, sometimes almost juvenile phrases. On the contrary I found the first book confusing and long winded, and because of that I didn't start reading blade breaker for nearly two years after I finished realm breaker. How she believes her life is worth nothing to no one but herself, and has to survive alone using whatever and whoever she can. But perilous lands await her and the companions, and they face assassins, otherworldly beasts, and tempestuous seas all as they rally a divided Ward to fight behind them.
Classic yet groundbreaking, romantic yet edgy , a rollicking adventure that carries you along at a relentless pace. I found that I unfortunately grew less attached to the characters as the book went on and I kind of liked the “bad guys” the best.
The BladeBreaker Pro is the perfect solution to this problem: the blade is simply inserted into this handy collection box and broken off, without any risk of injury to the user. Coraynne was a good main character, I enjoy how she sticks out among some of the other characters because she still holds onto her softness.
