About this deal

However, the struts that hold the thing together are painted steel - I don't see this as a problem but I will overpaint any chips or flaking at regular intervals to deter rust. Obviously it is not industrial quality but for DIY purposes it is great and beats hanging off a ladder for those high-level jobs. If you are doing quite fiddly work that needs both hands, a scaffold tower would be preferable as you should keep three points of contact at all times when on a ladder. It's wise to choose a tower manufactured by a reputable UK or EU company, rather than one from Asia, where the manufacturing and quality requirements are not as high. The roofer/gutter guys I use climb up on a ladder, then transfer to the roof, but that looks far to precarious for me to undertake.

I had a DIY version delivered which our joiners refused to open suggesting the cheap versions are rubbish but considering purchasing one of their industrial versions: https://www. i presume the 'tall' towers come in sections so you can have height's UP TO the max platform height? Mine does have a heavy bracing base, which requires spanners to dismantle, the castors add more weight, the rest is lightweight alloy. I wouldn't even consider conventional constructional scaffolding - the weight alone makes it a no-no. I actually prefer the ones not rated for commercial use as they are IMO significantly lighter and easier to handle on your own (same with ladders). For work around electrical sources, however, glass fibre towers should be used, since they will not conduct an electric current the way steel and aluminium do. This would make a good tower, you might want some more boards if you want an intermediate platform, and a set of wheels if you want it to be mobile.

Not a strength issue, just that if there is a wobble, two people trying to correct it makes it worse. One problem is that the assembly instructions are on the base of the platforms - not on a separate instruction sheet - but I managed. If cost is a consideration, then steel is the better choice, since it's less expensive than aluminium. Scaffold towers, sometimes referred to as access towers or a tower scaffold, are highly useful alternatives to ladders when there's a lot of work to be done at height. Ideal for use in the garden or inside the house; the tower is easy to build and can be moved by tilting back and pushing on its transport wheels.
