Still, the Galaxy S20 FE excels in a few key areas. Pictures taken in daylight are filled with intricate details and they have a little more contrast and less visual noise than the iPhone 11. Likewise, the S20 FE’s 3x zoom camera is an added bonus, since the iPhone 11 only has a dual-camera array, consisting of just a pair of 12MP wide and ultra-wide sensors. Internally you're getting a 4500mAh battery with fast and wireless charging and 6GB RAM. To top it off, the display is a 6.5-inch AMOLED 2X screen with 120hz refresh rate. In our battery rundown test, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE lasted for 20hrs 39mins before battery levels dropped to zero, which is 11% longer when compared against the Galaxy S20’s FHD+ score and a whopping 30% longer than the Note 20 Ultra. Samsung Galaxy S20 FE review: Cameras The FE retains an OLED panel with a small cutout at the top for the front camera, however it tops out at FHD+ rather than WQHD+ like on the Galaxy S20. As you couldn’t combine 120hz and the higher-res anyway, this change seems fine to me.

Now, if you do go for the cheaper 4G version then you will get the Samsung Exynos 990. This variation won’t be available in the States. Paired with that chipset you’ve got 6GB of fast RAM, and 128GB of expandable storage. You can also choose from any other Samsung mobile in our range, including the Samsung A02s, the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G, or the Samsung Galaxy A32 handset. With this Samsung Galaxy S20 FE smartphone, you’ll never be without games, films or music. The All-Day Intelligent battery means it’ll keep you company from the second you wake up to when you go to bed. And if you fancy watching a film or playing a game in between, everything will look amazing on its 6.5-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O screen. Sounds complicated, but that just means it’s got a razor-sharp display that’s bursting with colour and stretches all the way to the edge. And its triple lens rear camera will have you snapping amazing pics left, right and centre, especially since it has a 3x optical zoom for fantastic close-ups.Are the pictures better than the Pixel 4a? For me, no. But that’s subjective and you certainly do get crispier details and brighter colours here. The Pixel 4a still pips it for dynamic range, natural bokeh and, importantly, night mode. Since the Galaxy S20 FE’s main sensor is identical to the one found on the normal Galaxy S20, image quality in most situations remains practically unchanged. This means that the S20 FE shares its sibling’s shortcomings, most notably with occasionally artificial-looking colours and drab night shots compared to the same images taken on the iPhone 11 This brings the handset up to a whole new level of power, processing ability and camera performance. On top of that, the S21 features a similar price tag to what is available from the S20 FE.

One of the true highlights of the Galaxy S20 FE is that the UK 5G version comes with the Snapdragon 865 platform, rather than the usual Exynos chipset you’ll find in the high-end Note 20 series and Galaxy S20. So, how did the two phones fare? As it turns out, single-core performance is largely similar between the two chipsets, but the multi-core result highlights a serious advantage for the Snapdragon 865. With a final score of 3,167, compared with the Exynos 990’s 2,779, the S20 FE 5G is roughly 18% faster with regards to multi-core processing.Moving internally, the device features a 4500mAh battery (with fast and wireless charging capabilities), an IP68 rating and a Snapdragon 865 processor in the 5G model or a Exynos 990 in the 4G model - all specs that are similar to the pricier S20.

Out-of-the-box the S20 comes with Android 10 and the latest version of One UI. Samsung’s interface has improved immeasurably over the past few years and while it’s very much different from Google’s own vision of Android, I still like how it looks and works. Samsung has also indicated you’ll get three years of system updates, starting with Android 11, which is always good news. Samsung has kept a high-quality 120Hz panel for the S20 FE, giving you super-smooth scrolling. It has a 240Hz sampling rate too, for very responsive gaming. Why Samsung didn’t add this feature to the Note 20 feels bizarre to me. The main 12MP sensor takes some really great snaps, which shouldn’t come as a surprise as it’s a camera we’ve seen multiple times before and been impressed with on each occasion. Samsung remains the king when it comes to colour-rich, deeply saturated and slightly oversharpened shots and those traits are clear to see here. These images are primed for social media and I can completely understand why they’re so popular. Proximity Sensor, Hall Effect Sensor, Light Sensor, Gyroscope Sensor, Accelerometer (G-Sensor), Magnetometer, Fingerprint Sensor Battery Capacity (Typical): Typical value tested under third-party laboratory condition. Typical value is the estimated average value considering the deviation in battery capacity among the battery samples tested under IEC 61960 standard. Rated (minimum) capacity is 4370mAh. Actual battery life may vary depending on network environment, usage patterns and other factors. However, the FE does have to make a few sacrifices to get that lower cost. The body is a glass/plastic cross with a slightly cheaper feel and although the S20 FE has a larger battery, it does drop the screen quality and the amount of GB on offer. Is the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE worth its price tag? While I often struggled to make it through do with the S20 and S20 Plus, doing so with the S20 FE is easy and I can easily achieve more than six hours of screen on time – often more than an hour more. Samsung sent us the 5G variant of the S20 FE for this review, which means we can finally judge whether or not non-UK Samsung owners have been getting the better end of the deal until now. Both of these devices are pretty similar with the biggest difference being in the S20 FE's lower price tag. It comes in a couple of hundred pounds less than the S20 making it the most affordable of the range. Overall, with top-tier cameras, a high-end display and powerful battery and processor, the S20 FE is more than worth the price you're paying. Should you upgrade to the 5G edition?
