About this deal

With both units plugged in all the time I believe you do not even get the "where do you want the rear view" question - it assumes you still want it where you last selected it. Today, we have millions of users a month from around the world, and assess more than 1,000 products a year. But the cheaper Nextbase 412GW is a good option, or for more features, the 612GW is top of the range.

The magnetic mount attachment also makes clipping the dash cam onto the mount much less fiddly than before. This allows you to see the video along with all the other recorded GPS and G-sensor data, plus your location on the map. Considering most people use dash cameras to protect themselves against false insurance claims or in the event of an accident, Nextbase has also renewed it's partnership with SureThing! MyNextbase Player includes the functionality to play footage from your Dash Cam or Rear View Camera Module. At the top resolution, video is captured at 27Mbits/sec, so a 16GB memory card will be enough for 77 minutes of footage before the recoding loops to replace the oldest files with new ones. If the Dash Cam does not appear as a drive on your PC, please press the reset button on the underside of your Dash Cam and try all the USB ports on your computer.

In the past, a touch screen panel has been something reserved for top of the range models such as the 612GW. Nextbase says it uses so little power in sleep mode that it will work even if you leave you car parked for several weeks. In the end I got a replacement battery and swapped it over myself - it was fairly straight forward and the camera is now working correctly. The simplicity and quality of both cameras are good, but the thick wire that connects the cameras is a little bit tricky to run around the headlining of the car. The 522GW is the top spec, updated incarnation of the 512GW in Nextbase's brand-new dash cam range - the Series 2.

the issues with the 512GW and the Rear Add-on resolved? All the issues with the 512GW and the Rear Add-on resolved?

Now NextBase has discontinued the rear camera for the older models, are people using other cameras as a possible solution? That’s likely because the 512GW’s processor can’t handle the front camera at the highest quality plus the rear camera’s feed. If the battery lasts for less than 3 minutes, the battery may have reached the end of it's lifespan. Perfect solution would be to assume a default position for rear PiP so no question is asked at power up, and add the ability to change the default PiP position to the menu system (left/right/never). G-Sensor: this is for when you're completing journeys and a significant left/right or forward/backward impact is detected, you can change the sensitivity to low if you're experiencing too many.Just make sure you keep the short screws for the plastic cover of the GPS module and the long screws for the GPS base if I remember correctly and note the positive and negative sides when I soldering it.

Best-in-range dash cam launches: the 512-G - Nextbase

The new Nextbase range takes microSD cards up to 64GB - we're currently using 32GB microSD cards in ours. Since then, Nextbase has developed quite a large range of dash cams, so it’s a surprise that this is our first experience of the brand in this area – although we have come across the company’s other products, for example with the Walking Cinema Portable DVD Player. If the Screen Saver is enabled on the camera, the camera's screen will turn off after 30 seconds of recording.

I adjusted the rear camera angles today and it just stopped working, plenty of slack to connector so it’s not damaged the cable when adjusting. It’s a quick-release system that holds the camera in place with magnets, and also supplies power so you don’t have to unplug a USB cable if you prefer to remove your dash cam from view when you park. At that point we praised it for offering great quality video and the possibility of adding a rear camera in the future. In daylight, you should be able to make out number plates and signs with no problems, unless they’re simply too far away. The rear of the 512GW is dominated by a 3-inch LCD screen with touch-sensitive buttons on either end.
