A newer feature (although it has been around for a few years now) is Bluetooth connectivity which shares brushing data with your phone. Sonicare have 2 models that can do this whereas Oral-B have 8.

Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 4300 Sonic Electric

Although subject to model most in both ranges have battery indicators that give a guide as to when a charge is required. The way the cleaning is done will have different sensations in the mouth. This will influence your decision on the best brush for you. How important this is will depend on your routine. It is safe to leave either brand of brush on charge for a prolonged period of time but for frequent travellers, the extended life of the Sonicare may be preferred. So this is perhaps one of the most personally influenced categories on which to judge a toothbrush. A single grey button, wrapped in rubber, is well-placed and a smooth grey surface surrounds it which guides your thumb even when you are not looking. Two small LED lights are placed at the bottom of the handle including a brush head reminder which turns red when your chip-equipped brush head is worn out (more about the chip later), and a battery icon which glows green when fully charged, and starts to blink when the brush handle needs a little extra juice. When the power is really low, an amber light will come on and the toothbrush will beep 3 times. When it beeps 5 times and shuts off, it is completely out of power.

Typically I do not create detailed comparisons for cross-manufacturer brushes, however, I have compared the two flagship models in my Oral-B iO vs 9900 Prestige post. Oral-B does offer a travel case, that allows you to charge the brush inside. However, you need to take a proprietory travel adapter, not the internationally accepted USB power cable.Philips charges an arm and a leg for replacement brush heads for this type of brush (about 10 euros apiece) but you can find reasonably priced generics that might make it worth giving it a try. When you pay this much for a brush, you have high expectations. Initially the DiamondClean Smart was pretty impressive. It came with 4 brush heads along with a tongue cleaning kit, charging cup, deluxe travel case, and a stylish amethyst-colored handle. The Sonicare 4300 is in the middle of the Sonicare line. It is not the flashiest, fanciest or most expensive brush that Philips offers, but we love it. It combines simple, modern design with efficient cleaning and does everything right. It has a pressure sensor, quadpacer, and two modes. We think that this is the only electric toothbrush you will ever need!

If you think the range of modern electric toothbrushes available is somewhat overwhelming, you are not alone. In fact, in our lab test, the Sonicare 4300 gave us 99 brushing sessions before the battery died. At two sessions a day, that comes out to be almost 50 days of brushing without charging. Like we said, beyond our expectations! Thanks for very informative comparison. I would like add one more aspect to it that shoud be taken under consideration, namely dentin abrasion. Sonic toothbrushes cause around 50 per cent more surface loss than oscillating-rotating ones (21.03 μm vs 15.71μm)*. If you`ve got sensitive teeth or care about the enamel the second one would be a better choice. If removing as many stains as possible from your teeth is your priority you should take a closer look at sonic toothbrush. If you need more detail on any of the brushes, read on or leave a comment. Sonicare brush vs brush comparisons

All of these DiamondClean Smarts offer everything the 7100 has in a beautiful satin-finish like the DiamondClean. They give you 5 modes to choose from with 3 intensities for a grand total of 15 options when you brush, which is more than anyone needs. Unlike the smart brushes we tested, the ProtectiveClean 4300 is designed to clean your teeth, and that is about it. The only additional feature it has is that it offers two intensities. By pushing the power button while it is on, you can switch from high to low or low to high. It will remember which setting you finished brushing with and stay on that intensity. Below is a graphic that highlights and compares key features and functions of the current range of Sonicare brushes. The brush head on a sonic brush is a lot like a manual toothbrush in its size and shape. It covers several teeth at the same time, and is oval shaped.
