Description

The film is quite fast paced and benefits from having humour throughout, although there isn’t really much tension and the actual investigation is a bit laborious. THE SIX MEN (1951) - an old fashioned curiosity but we enjoyed the acting from Harold Warrender as the Scotland yard inspector and Michael Evans as his sidekick. The script is clever and witty, and we loved most of the movie, although the suspense lagged a bit towards the end. She drives to Markham's country house and en route picks up hitchhiker Jimmy, who agrees to pose as her lawyer. On the way she picks up a hitchhiker Jimmy (William Sylvester) and hatches a plan to trick the blackmailer by having Jimmy play her fiancé and lawyer.

Filmed at Nettlefold Studios this neat little crime drama tells the story of An innocent hitch-hiker who takes a ride into danger when he accepts a lift from a woman who is being blackmailed. House of Blackmail is a 1953 British second feature [1] drama film directed by Maurice Elvey and starring Mary Germaine, William Sylvester and Alexander Gauge. THE HOUSE OF BLACKMAIL (1953), starring William Sylvester, a likeable American actor with an elegant and throwaway style that's ideal for this Agatha Christie-like who-dunnit, about a group of people holed up in a country manor, each suspecting the others of murdering a blackmailer. Actors: Mary Germaine, William Sylvester, Alexander Gauge, John Arnatt, Denis Shaw, Ingeborg von Kusserow, Patricia Owens, C. His artist sister, Carol (Mary Germaine) tries to get him out of it by agreeing to meet Markham in his old country house. From the theme music I was expecting a comedy but it turned into an above average thriller I thought the 2 leads bounced off each other well and mary germaine held her own as genuine costar but the other men in the house were poorly written. The second film the editing is not so good, blacks out and then starts on a new bit of film but otherwise good.

House of Blackmail é um filme de drama britânico de 1953, dirigido por Maurice Elvey e estrelado por Mary Germaine, William Sylvester e Alexander Gauge. Of the cast, only Ingeborg Wells and Denis Shaw show any spirit, and direction is not particularly in evidence. The plotline's not bad; a mild mannered embezzler becomes implicated in his girlfriend's murder and takes refuge in a boarding house, where he is pursued by gangsters, including John LeMesurier, who is wasted in this movie, although overall the cast are good. Mary Germaine is great though, and there are some attempts at lightness of touch which raises this above the average B potboiler of the time.
