About this deal

Double stitching along the folded seams creates a wind tight seal, and a heavy duty zipper (for externally routed cables) should hold up to years of abuse. Unless you are familiar with the particular wrench required and how they are they attached, it’s not going to be an easy grab-and-go operation. As they say, the best defense is a good offense, and the easiest way to combat cold-fingered misery is to keep your fingers from getting cold in the first place. e., gloves that are normally only good down to 40 degrees can now be used down to at least 20 degrees. Installation and removal are a breeze, making Bar Mitts the perfect accessory for any eBiker looking to stay comfortable in chilly weather.

I found the difference here small compared to the original Bar Mitts, but you definitely have to aim for the opening and not just for the handlebars. Last year, I didn’t have Bar Mitts, and suffered from numbingly cold hands when the temperature sunk below 15 degrees regardless of what super-high-tech gloves I wore.Perhaps the best endorsement of the Bar Mitts is that they are still mounted on my handlebars and will likely stay there for the rest of the winter. Those who suffer from Raynaud's disease or numb, cold hands due to the cold, wind, rain or snow can continue to ride and train throughout fall and winter. I'm not sure why cyclists ever thought that using something that doesn't breath at all was a good idea or an athletic sport.

Bar mitts seem to get very solid reviews, just curious if anyone doesn't like them and prefers some other sort of hand warming solution heading south of 20F to zero and perhaps a bit below? This generally works well enough, but it can be a bit awkward to blindly reach a hand into the sleeve to fish this around. In a never ending quest to figure out how to keep my hands warm during cold Midwest winters, I stumbled across Bar Mitts at the Iceman Cometh Challenge MTB race a few months ago. I live in Colorado Springs and our winters are relatively mild by real winter standards in MN, WI, IL, etc. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. If you are still running externally routed cables, there is a model with zippers along the inside for your cables. They use a heavy duty zipper down by the shifter and brake for installation purposes, with a small Velcro tab to complete the closure. In typical winter conditions I could use lighter gloves– and sometimes no gloves– inside the Bar Mitts, allowing me to more easily and safely operate the shifters and brakes. Warm, dry, and surprisingly comfortable, my hands will never be the weak link in my winter riding with Bar Mitts again.

My test bike had newer internally routed Shimano Ultegra shifters/brakes, so installation was simple as sliding these over the hoods, starting at the bottom, and securing the velcro strap around the top of the handlebars. It only took a few minutes to slip the Mitts over the ends of the handlebars, zip the sides around my shifter cables, and fasten the inner edge of the Mitts to the top of the handlebar with the velcro straps on the inside of the Mitts. Bar Mitts has been in the pogie game for so long that many people use “bar mitts” as a generic term when referring to pogies. Note: If you have a Side-Mounted Display like the 500C, DM07 or KTLCD5 you will not be able to view the screen while using these.

The strong stitching along the seams creates a wind tight seal and, with the removable cuffs, keeps your wrists warm and out of the elements as well. Rides at 15F were sufficiently comfortable with Bar Mitts plus wool mittens, where they would not have been as comfortable for me with any other glove and mitten combination I had tried alone. As she competed at the elite level, her journalism career followed, and soon she became a full-time cycling journalist. gets cold enough to start compromising good function of grease, suspension forks, and the DOT fluid in hydro brakes. In my first installation attempt, I did not find this new method particularly faster or easier to deal with.
