The magical world she is building is really interesting and I appreciate the fact she’s trying to include a clean romance aspect too, bc we probably don’t have enough of those, and mixed with magic — I think that’s cool, perhaps a bit unique.While most meanings are guessable if you know their meanings in English, it's worth going through the list as they come up regularly in the plot. It straddles so many genres so eloquently and smoothly that readers of each can savor every word, from historical to fantasy to mystery and romance.

This book ended up on my list of favorite books I’ve read in 2022, and it's near the very top of that list.

Beth, with her special magic skills can feel that something rotten is afoot but a person's magical skills can go only so far.One of the best reads of this year, so happy there will be more stories of this fantastic gang, Heir of Uncertain Magic.

I can’t say too much about the enchanted house without spoiling anything, but suffice it to say Holmberg does such a great job of writing in fun little quirks of magic. As the author explores two completely dissimilar people in two utterly dissimilar places, the writing may initially seem a little muddled and disconnected. This is a time for Hulda Larkin from the Boston Institute for the Keeping of Enchanted Rooms to come to help and take care of the new resident or perhaps Whimbrel House itself! This book is told from the past and the present with some great twist and turns that I did not see coming, can't wait for the next book. Luckily, before the end of the book I realized there must be a part 2 in the works so I checked and I was able to download the digital ARC of part 2 from NetGalley.I devoured this book in one sitting - and while I wish I could have taken the time to enjoy it even more, nothing can take away the enjoyment I had with this story. Thirty-one year old Merritt Fernsby, who is estranged from his family since more than a decade, gets a shock when he learns that his grandmother has left him a remote estate named Whimbrel House. The ending left me happy, but also a little bereft thinking I would have to say goodbye to everyone at Whimbrel House.
