Not enough? How about three Insecticons, five Combaticons, four Dinobots, three Stunticons, three Aerialbots, TWO versions of Bumblebee, and THREE unique versions of Optimus Prime! (Look, the point is, there’s more Optimus Prime here than you can handle.) a b Maiberg, Emanuel (February 16, 2014). "Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark confirmed, merges with Michael Bay's Age of Extinction". GameSpot. Archived from the original on February 16, 2014 . Retrieved February 16, 2014. It's slightly less annoying to open Gear Boxes while preparing your character for the online co-op Escalation mode, which is sort of a microcosm for the mode itself. Pitting you and up to three teammates against 15 waves of progressively more difficult enemies on eight well-designed maps, there's a sense of urgency in Escalation, whether it be as you race to revive a teammate or scour the map to replenish or replace a weapon running low on ammo. Escalation doesn't have the epic boss encounters of Gears of War's Horde mode, the alternate objectives of Mass Effect 3, or the insane extraction endings of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare's Garden Ops, but it's still the most entertaining part of Rise of the Dark Spark. Epic Multiplayer Battles: Expanded four-player co-op online escalation mode with new upgradeable defenses and challenging Power Foes!

Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark - GameFAQs

Transformers: Rise of The Dark Spark has an extra mode called "Escalation". It is an online multiplayer mode where four players fend off waves of increasingly tough enemies, returned with the addition of upgradable defenses. The mode features over forty playable characters, and has levels based on both Cybertron and Earth. [4] Experience points collected by players are shared between the single-player and multiplayer modes. [2] The Escalation mode is absent in the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game. Retrieved June 16, 2014. Initially, you’ll struggle to spot the differences with its predecessor, and who could blame you? The environments look much the same – repetitive, boring, and always shiny – and the roster of classic characters appear to be based upon the same models as their previous gen counterparts. In fact, the only real immediate difference that you’ll notice to High Moon's output is the terrible narrative structure which attempts to glue the game together. High Moon Studios Cybertron series and Michael Bays Latest Movie collide as the Autobots and the Decepticons continue their battle on Earth and on Cybertron, trying to secure an ancient and powerful artefact, The Dark Spark! It's on-par with or even above War for Cybertron campaign-quality-wise, and it has the best Escalation mode so far. High Moon Studios set a decent bar with its Activision-published Transformersgames in terms of quasi film tie-ins (though the crown still goes to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, in my book). None of them were mind-blowingly good, but they succeeded in setting their own tone while staying inline with the film series, and delivered a mostly enjoyable action romp with a fun horde mode before it was featured in every game ever. One of the standout features of our previous Transformers games has been the attention to the unique personalities and details of each character. Playing the Campaign feels like watching a great buddy cop movie with a dozen different players. We’re happy to say that trend continues in Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark.

Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark Review Roundup

Escalation mode is one of the highlights oof the game, with some well structured co-op and entertaining level design. The gradual difficulty increases are also nice. There's plenty to do, but unfortunately it gets very familiar, a lot like the rest of the game. You always feel like you've been there and done that, which is fairly upsetting. The old saying 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' doesn't apply here, as Edge of Reality have created more problems.
