Description

The Bluesound Powernode Edge represents a perfect gateway into a setup where all you need is speakers - perfect for the age of streaming and high-resolution digital audio, all within a small but perfectly formed chassis. Add Speakers Like other Bluesound streamers and streaming amplifiers, the Powernode Edge also carries controls such as play, pause or volume on its housing and is also said to be ready for integration into BluOS multi-room or surround setups; due to its compact size, it is supposed to be especially well-suited for smart home applications, to which the wall mount included with the device also wants to contribute. Having found the Powernode Edge so enjoyable in two-channel stereo, I was keen to listen to it with the Pulse Sub+ subwoofer in a 2.1 setup. The BluOS Controller app makes it easy to turn the subwoofer on and off and make adjustments on the fly. You can tweak crossover frequency, fine-tune subwoofer level, and adjust phase so that the sub and main speakers blend seamlessly. After some experimentation, I left the crossover point at the default 80Hz and bumped up the volume trim to around 4dB. This gave me a satisfying sound without overemphasizing the bottom end. We do provide installation options for built-in appliances providing it is simply a case of fitting the appliance and furniture doors. Any additional work to the kitchen units or carpentry work required will need to be completed at the customer’s expense. An alliance of audiophiles. The Edge just sits there, it is always available and reliability has been 100%, with no dropouts, connectivity issues or bother… The Powernode Edge is a powerful amplifier that can handle, process and output some serious sound. This is all processed internally with an ARM Cortex-A53, Quad-Core, 1.8GHz per core processor. This processor has no problem handling anything thrown its way and is the core reason the Edge can handle the aforementioned aptX HD Bluetooth signals streaming. It literally is as simple as just adding speakers. Bring in your own set of bookshelf or compact floorstanding speakers and you're off to the races. Add in any other wired source such as a turntable (with a separate phono stage) or take advantage of the HDMI eARC connectivity to truly take your setup to the next level. Another WayConnectivity wise, the EDGE offers Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), Ethernet, Two-Way aptX HD Bluetooth, a combo Mini TOSLINK/Stereo 3.5mm input, HDMI eARC (think TV), RCA Subwoofer output (Wireless to PULSE SUB+), a single set of 5-Way Binding Post Speaker Terminals, and USB for Fat32 Formatted storage. Connect with the BluVoice skill and you can enable voice control. Compatible with voice assistants such as Alexa, Siri and the Google Assistant, voice controlling your entire Bluesound system is easy. IR input and remote learning capability – Control it with the optional Bluesound RC1 Remote Controller. One final note on steaming lossless files, we are getting into the nitty gritty at this point. There is still some minor compression that happens in transferring the file via Bluetooth. Honestly, it is so minor that I’m not even sure you would notice unless your pouring tens of thousands of dollars into your hardwired system to prove me wrong. In which case, I concede, you win. The POWERNODE EDGE connects to your home network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Hands-free control is possible with voice assistants like Siri, Alexa, and Google Voice.

The POWERNODE EDGE decodes Dolby® Digital content on its own and can also be used to power the rear channel speakers of a wireless home theater system HI-RES FOR EVERY CORNER The Powernode Edge connects to your home network automatically when an ethernet cable is plugged into its LAN port. Connecting wirelessly is easily done through the BluOS Controller app. A few moments after the unit is powered up, it becomes ready for network connection in hotspot mode; a flashing green LED turns solid to indicate this status. Once ready, you launch the Add A Player wizard in the BluOS Controller app, which searches for and lists available players, and select the Powernode Edge. (This wizard is also used to connect the Pulse Sub+ subwoofer.) Next, you connect the Powernode Edge to your Wi-Fi network: on iOS, the BluOS app discovers it automatically; on Android, you use a wizard to select and log in to your Wi-Fi network. The status indicator turns blue once connection is established. This process may sound involved, but it took me less than five minutes to complete.
