About this deal

A stainless steel portafilter allows for naked or spouted brewing, and our custom pressure gauge ensures precise extractions. New preheat routine: The portafilter is (exquisitely) made of metal instead of plastic, and needs preheating just like the chamber. In practice though, I personally found the Flair to be more work and more frustrating than enjoyable to use. A nice metal tamper is included, and where I ran into what I found to be the biggest design flaw of the machine. With a larger capacity cylinder and larger portafilter, you can control your brew ratios with ease to ensure your espresso is brewed exactly the way you want it.

The warranty becomes void if the product or parts are modified, abused or improperly used, damaged by accident or neglect, or if any parts are improperly installed. Here, brew water is estimated to reach a maximum of 183°F/84°C and declines gradually to 172°F/78°C as the shot nears completion at 49 seconds. I have found the Flair brew chamber sits forward just a bit too much (once inserted on the stand) such that the piston cannot be inserted unless you tip the brew chamber forward a couple of centimetres. Both Signature PROs have an attractive stainless steel drip grate featuring the Flair logo and backed by a stainless steel drip tray.

Flair maintains that getting the unit better preheated and temperature stable mitigates this, and I found that to maybe be true, where getting the brew group hotter produced shots with more crema, though it still was thinner than with a pump machine. The features I like most in the PRO include the substantial stainless steel cylinder with a silicone cap for preheating. One of my favorite features of all Flair products is the thoughtful use of silicone casing for handling hot surfaces. The shower screen allows even infusion of water into the coffee and keeps the wet grounds in place to help prevent channeling.

The upgrade path (encore grinder, signature machine, perfetto grinder, pro 2 brew head ) worked its wonders! Depending on the roast level and coffee and the amount of effort you want to exert, you can pull lever shots at about 6 bars to start. By maintaining a close relationship with these estates, we guarantee a consistent supply of exceptional beans, which form the basis of ourexquisite coffee blends. Anyone can learn to brew with the Flair PRO 2, but the process does take some effort, materials, and a small learning curve. This disengagement at the end of the pull can be eliminated entirely by watching the pressure gauge to make sure all pressure is released, as I'll show below. But, if you’re looking for café-quality espresso at home, that you handcraft yourself, the PRO 2 will serve you for a lifetime. This review unfolds in successive posts and will provide a brief temperature guideline to get you started on fine-tuning your espresso. The Flair PRO 2 is an all-manual espresso maker that produces cafe-quality espresso from your home or wherever you are. I prepare the cylinder by making sure the piston is at the top of its travel -- for denser shots you can pre-set the piston a bit lower in the cylinder to reduce the fill. While practicing my new routine, I have to say the shots are perfectly acceptable in comparison to some of the sour shots I got when I messed up with the signature, so even the slightly rough start was quite enjoyable!
