Now the important stuff – how good are the images taken by the lens? Let’s break it down it into smaller sections.

Plus, Fujifilm is known for its stunning prime lenses, so every Fuji photographer should have at least one in their photography kit. The Fujinon 23mm f1.4 is definitely heavier, weighing a total of 300g, so it may not travel as easily as the f2. It also makes handling the f1.4 somewhat harder than the f2. And carrying it around on city walking tours is much less comfortable. You get slightly more details in the color and tonal gradations. This is different than contrast and sharpness so it’s very hard to measure and people think it’s sort of pseudoscience Jedi nonsense. It’s not, i

The only plastic element of the Fujifilm XF 23mm F/2 is the lens cap. The lens cap uses a pinch-release system, but given its size can feel a little clumsy to attach it securely -especially if you have big fingers like mine. The Fuji 23 2 has mild to moderate pincushion distortion as shot on Fujifilm's cameras which try to correct it. This slim, hardworking, affordable lens is compatible with all Fujifilm X-Series interchangeable system cameras. It’s perfect for beginner photographers, ideal for bloggers, and is a must for street photographers. It’s one of three in Fujifilm’s weather-sealed Fujinon f2 series. The Fuji 23mm is a compact, lightweight, weather-resistant, silent autofocus wide-angle lens and is not bad looking. When shooting at the widest aperture of f/2, it’s possible to see some slight drop-off in light at the corners of the image. This is particularly noticeable when shooting a white wall, but is unlikely to be overly noticeable for normal subjects. By f/2.8, the effect is lessened, and has gone completely by f/4. Distortion is kept to the absolute minimum in both raw and jpeg files.

It's almost all metal with engraved markings like most other Fujinon XF lenses, while this one is made in the Philippines, not Japan like most of the other XF lenses. When we reviewed the XF 35mm f/2 R WR we came to the conclusion that unless you really need the extra stop the XF 35mm f/1.4 R provides, there’s no major benefit to be had from choosing the larger alternative. Keen to find out if the same can be said for the 23mm f/2R WR XF, we subjected it to some rigorous real-world testing. Fujifilm XF23mm f/2 R WR review: Features The fact that the autofocus is so good, as well as silent, makes this an excellent lens for shooting video. Each of these lenses by Fuji are great, and are widely considered excellent by the Fujifilm photography community at large.

Pros: What makes the Fujifilm 23mm f2 a great Fuji lens

Using the 23mm F2 WR along side the 35mm F2 WR felt very natural. The lenses work very well together and, with both using the same 43mm filter size, I definitely appreciated the ease of switching filters between the two, without having to mess around with step-down rings. The bayonet style fitting of the 23mm F2 WR lens hood feels a little more substantive than the screw-in hood of the 35mm F2 WR, but both are a little plasticy and it would have been nice to see a little more effort when compared to the quality build of the lenses themselves. The 23mm f2, much like the other lenses in the series, is built to be weather and dust-resistant. So it can withstand being in light rain or strong winds. It can also shoot in temperatures of up to -10°C, making it the perfect accessory on any winter trip. Above left: XF 23mm f2 at f5.6. Above right: XF 23mm f1.4 at f5.6. At closest focusing distance of each lens. With a brighter light at closer range, the XF 23mm f2 above left performs noticeably better than it did in my first example, indeed arguably better than the older XF 23mm f1.4 pictured above right. The diffraction spikes from the newer XF 23mm f2 here are a little sharper and better-defined than the older model, delivering an attractive effect.

Below is a breakdown of the 23mm f2 features and an explanation of how each one makes this lens the gem that it is and why I love it. Fuji 23mm f2 Review – Sturdy Handling / Built Quality All in all, I can say that street photography changed my style and passion for photography big time. Finally, I found a genre in photography that I can do everywhere at any time. The Fuji X-T3 with the 23mm F2 WR is a system I can rely on in any occasions: bright sunny days, cloudy days, rainy days and at night.

In the example above, both lenses render the out-of-focus LED lamps quite differently: the newer XF 23mm f2 on the left renders an asymmetrical cat’s eye shape that’s quite distinctive towards the corners, whereas the older XF 23mm f1.4 maintains a more rounded shape. The bokeh blobs from the XF 23mm f1.4 are unsurprisingly larger than the newer lens and while neither suffers from unattractive onion-ringing effects within the blobs, its’ the newer XF 23mm f2 that’s exhibiting more obvious outlining. There’s no right or wrong in rendering, but to me, the older XF 23mm f1.4 looks more attractive in this comparison, even looking beyond the difference in depth-of-field. The f2 offers simple yet pleasing bokeh. While it’s not as smooth as the bokeh you’ll get from other lenses in the Fuji range, it works perfectly for street photography and travel photography. F2 maximum aperture As is the case with most Fuji lenses, the build quality and materials are far superior to what you’d find in its competitors (which tend to make even expensive lenses out of plastic, who knows why). Weather resistance Ultimately – no lens is perfect. No lens has everything you could ever want. There are always sacrifices — if it’s not image quality, it’s weight. If it’s not weight, it’s flexibility. Tradeoffs abound! If price isn’t your main motivating factor, here are a few more reasons the Fujifilm 23mm one of my most-used lenses. Compactness and build quality
