About this deal

I help parents to talk about sex (with less cringe and more confidence) and empower their child to make smart sexual decisions. Sick of an administration that puts football before female health, the girls confront a world that shrugs—or worse, squirms—at the thought of a menstruation revolution. The girls who read this book and take it upon themselves to follow in its wake are honestly going to be extraordinary humans. My name is Lily Williams and I co-wrote and illustrated this middle grade coming-of-age graphic novel Go With The Flow with my friend and co-author, Karen Schneemann.

The creators nimbly incorporate issues of sexuality and social media, creating contemporary parentheticals in a heartening period story. I understand that this is intended as a book to empower people with periods and address the injustices they face. I was frustrated that several of the conflicts needed to move the plot forward are not resolved here.I mean, face the facts, when I tell you I found this great book on menstruation rights, you’re not going to pick it up hoping for a chucklefest. Go with the Flow does show one of the friends who’s periods are so long and painful she often has to be absent from school at some point during her period. I have been trying to catch up on my Goodreads reviews, so the recommendations shelves keep being updated. S.] , adenomyosis [ii] [inner lining of uterus breaks thru uterine wall; perhaps severe cramps, bloating, heavy period; > 200,000/year U.

Not just as a funny graphic novel, but as something that will show them that this is a normal part of life. She has served on Newbery, written for Horn Book, and has done other lovely little things that she'd love to tell you about but that she's sure you'd find more interesting to hear of in person. One decides to fight for free feminine hygiene products in the restroom, another reflects on her extremely painful periods. She received her first undergraduate degree in engineering from UCLA and her second in animation from California College of the Arts.

Though it’s mainly for middle and high school students, I highly recommend it for all ages, genders and orientations. I’m not 100% sure if this is more of a teen graphic novel or not, but I think that it is appropriate for tweens and older children, as well as teens). Interestingly, the Acknowledgments at the back are where some of the most egregious double entendres lurk.
