About this deal

Meanwhile Rosie is throwing herself into her work, taking on as many shifts as she can. Anything to keep her mind off the fact that she hasn’t heard from her sweetheart in months… One of the main storylines in Triumph of the Shipyard Girls revolves around Charlotte's growing curiosity about Lily and Rosie's fear that her sister will discover that she used to be a prostitute. I love that women from all walks of life are featured without judgement here - and that includes those who work for Lily. Although Rosie's circumstances meant she had little choice other than to become a sex worker, Maisie and Vivian don't seem like victims at all and are women in charge of their own lives.

Meanwhile welder Dorothy has a feeling that her beau Toby is planning to pop the question when he's next on leave. But it seems that her head is being turned by someone closer to home... Triumph of the Shipyard Girls is the eighth book in the Shipyard Girls series from Nancy Revell which follows the ups and downs, the good times and the bad, in the lives of a group of women welders who work in the shipyards in Sunderland during World War Two. With each book I just love this series more and more and as we are progressing further through the series we are moving away from descriptions of the women's daily work welding and the routines they have in the ship yard. This is a good thing as now I feel the author is really concentrating on the women's personal stories much more. Storylines that began maybe a book or two ago are getting great attention and focus now and I am enjoying how everything is developing with some of the most important threads being continued throughout each book. Rosie is flourishing in her role as head-welder while still keeping her double life a secret. But a dashing detective is forcing Rosie to choose between love and her duty. Bel is enjoying working at the shipyard but it seems her mother Pearl, is not so keen. Is Bel trying to get to the truth about her heritage and it seems that someone else is also making connections. The past is about to come into the future for Bel and Pearl. It will take great strength and friendship if the shipyard girls are to weather the storms to come. Dorothy whilst content with planning Angie’s wedding, does not want one of her own and is determined along with Gloria’s son Bobby to see the world once the world is available to be seen once again. Helen is still battling with her mother and the hold she has over Helen and the women welders in Thompson's yard. Secrets can make you bitter and twisted and it seems that Helen has stumbled across another one and it seems her mother knows nothing about it. I loved how Helen really was starting to grow up and become more aware of the bigger picture as to what is going when it comes to her family. I'm still waiting for that big show down with her mother Miriam though and I hope it will come soon as I detest the hold she has over so many of the women welders. The mystery element surrounding family relationships only intensified throughout the story and though some hard revelations for Helen to hear came to the fore I was glad things were coming out in the open. She can't believe what she is hearing as it throws everything she had ever known, believed in and thought into doubt. I love the way she is going about investigating things. She wants all her ammunition gathered together before she confronts the culprits because she knows the fall out will be huge, damaging and explosive. At the same time I admire the way she is handling what she is discovering about family secrets and hurts and I can't wait to see what is going to happen in the next book. A Christmas Wish For The Shipyard Girls’ is the 9th book in the bestselling series featuring ‘The Shipyard Girls’. I have been a fan of this series right from the very beginning. I have read, reviewed, loved and raved about every book in the series to date. As soon as I finish reading the latest book in the series, I immediately look forward to the next book in the series and (im)patiently wait until I can get my hands on a copy. ‘A Christmas Wish For The Shipyard Girls’ is the latest in the series and it was released on 1st October 2020. I was fortunate enough to have a sneaky peek at an early review copy and boy oh boy, it is another amazing addition to an amazing series written by an amazing author. I absolutely ADORED reading ‘A Christmas Wish For The Shipyard Girls’ but more about that in a bit.

Heroines women welders who know no fear, Three cheers for the shipyard girl's will live on always in my heart. New to the asylum attached to the Ryhope, Dr Claire Eris had set her sights on the dashing Dr John Parker from the moment she set eyes on him. She knew of his close friendship with Helen Crawford and while she openly stated she had no problem with that, inwardly she would do everything within her power to keep the two apart. Claire could see that the two were smitten with each other, even if neither of them could, so it would do nothing for her plans if they were to spend any time together and suddenly realise their feelings were reciprocated. So when Helen would call for John, the message would be surreptitiously be given to Claire who would "pass it on to John"...only she wouldn't. Therefore, John would think Helen no longer wanted to confide in him and Helen would think John didn't care enough for her to return her calls. The next step in her plan was to snare John as her husband...and then Helen would never stand a chance. Gloria is hiding her own little secret – one that if found out, could not only threaten her job, but her life. Secrets of the Shipyard Girls” is the third novel in the “Shipyard Girls” series and was released in the year 2017. While the war drags on, the shipyard girls find they are facing battles of their own. The women are very likable and relatable, each one brings their own personality and unique character to their little group which kept the story moving steadily forward, I really enjoyed getting a snapshot into each of the women’s characters, but this is predominately Polly’s story.Nancy has stated that she envisions The Widow’s Choice as being part of a trilogy, so fans, watch this space and be prepared to fall in love with this new world and these new characters.

But as ever I am taken into the lives of Rosie, head welder of her close knit team of women whose wish is to know that her husband Peter is alive and well. She also wishes Charlotte her younger sister would develop some interest in someone other than Lily. Against all odds, Polly's fiancé has finally returned home from the front line. If they can keep things on an even keel, she might get the winter wedding she's always dreamed of. Even though victory bells are ringing loud and clear for the Shipyard Girls there's an element of sadness because this is the final part of this epic series of eleven novels which have charted the progress of this stalwart group of women as they survived whatever the war threw at them, whilst at the same time keeping the home fires and the Sunderland shipyards flourishing. In this final novel we meet again with the women who have become such an intrinsic part of the story and hope with the end of the war they can each go on to find the happiness they deserve. I can’t but fail to mention some of the stalwarts in this series from day one. Rosie, the leader of the group, has always had a brilliant storyline. She features less so this time around but when she did I felt every minute of her pain, anger, despair and uncertainty that she has heard nothing from her husband Peter working undercover in France. She also has an awful lot to deal with on the home front but she is a gritty, determined and admirable character. I felt sorry for Polly, that she was faced with giving birth to her first child alone as her husband is away minesweeping in Gibraltar. She is really forced to slow down and it's not in her nature at all. I feared for her big time at one point and I hoped more heartache was not coming her way. As for Gloria she is like the mother of the group but she too is harbouring her own sadness and is willing things to come to a happy conclusion. Martha, Dorothy and Angie feature less but they do have interesting storylines so I’d love to see them coming more to the forefront in future books especially if other plots are starting to be resolved. During the day, Rosie (head welder) teaches her fledgling group of trainees their new trade, however at night she hides

Another such series is 'Steel Girls' by Michelle Rawlins, about a steelworks in Sheffield during wartime. There are some unexpected surprises in A CHRISTMAS WISH FOR THE SHIPYARD GIRLS - some good and some not so good - but for most of the girls, they do get their Christmas wish granted in one way or another. Head-welder Rosie is just about managing to keep her double life hidden from little sister Charlotte’s prying eyes. But Charlotte is nothing if not determined and, with a secret this big, something is bound to leak.

Pearl has no wish to relive the past but stumbling across it, she realises that she might be able to make her daughter Bel's wish come true - to close the door on the past. Having come in to the series with the last book "Triumph for the Shipyard Girls", I have only just been introduced to the girls that make up this wonderful series. So needless to say, I was thrilled with the opportunity to read the next installment A CHRISTMAS WISH FOR THE SHIPYARD GIRLS. The lives, the loves, the heartbreaks the girls are faced with continue from where the previous one left off. And what a cliffhanger that was! Shipyard Girls in Love” is the fourth novel in the “Shipyard Girls” series and was released in the year 2017. Sunderland in 1941. With a minor break in the air raids that provide a much needed break from the war, things look up for Rosie, who’s fallen head over heels for Detective Sergeant Miller. However how long could their romance last in these uncertain times? At the time I was adamant that the series was finished at book 12, but then because I had a bit of time afterwards and my mind started swirling and I just started thinking about Angie.

Although the title of the book is A Christmas Wish for the Shipyard Girls, this isn't a Christmas story as such and much of the action takes place in the preceding months, starting from May 1943. Invariably meticulously researched, the earlier chapters continue to illustrate the devastating impact of the Blitz on Sunderland. It means the Shipyard Girls work even harder as the ships they have already repaired are damaged once again but as always Nancy Revell beautifully describes the collective stoicism of the community and the way in which they pulled together to support each other. Whilst reading this book I felt a real sense that a lot of the storylines established over the course of the previous eight books were going to reach their climax. That every little thing that had been bubbling away beneath the surface known to some characters but not to others yet the reader knew everything. Well it was like there was going to be a big explosion and every little bit of deviousness and things that people had been desperate to keep secret and bottled up would spill forth like a preverbal can of worms. I was hoping that not everything would be resolved especially as there is two more years of the war to go and I am not at all ready for this series to end. Thankfully the author knows very well how to pace things and provided the reader with just enough of things coming to a climax while still keeping a lot up her sleeve for future books. I hate when things are rushed when so much time, care and attention has been given to building things up perfectly and I am glad this didn’t happen here. Yet there was still plenty to whet the readers appetite.
