I also found Sera to be extremely unlikeable and immature. It was really a struggle to get through her inner monologue. She also made so many stupid decisions and had the worst attitude about it. I really couldn’t stand her but I did like Nyktos for the most part.

I really felt for Sera, how hard is it to know that you will have to kill someone, even more so if you have to sacrifice someone you are growing to love. Nyktos/Ash seems like a good guy in the grand scheme of things. He is a god capable of terrible things but he is also much more kind than most of the gods. He still has some humanity left in him which makes Sera’s task all the more troubling. I spent the entire book wondering if she could ever really go through with it. Eythos passed away at some point. But before he did, he gave an ember of life to Sera resulting in her ability to heal others. Kolis I’d finally had a taste of being something other than a means to an end, a weapon to be used and then discarded. I’d had a taste of realness. I’d finally felt like a fully formed person, not a specter soaked in blood. Not a liar and a monster who could kill without all that much remorse.

He wishes he never had his kardia removed. He wants to love her and hates himself for being her damnation. Honestly, this entire book is one big painfest. I love them so much, I seriously do. It's nice to know that in the present time (FBAA timeline) these two are together and she ascended, are madly in love and had two children. I know it gets all messed up because of reasons we do not know yet but it's always good to know they will get their happy ending.

Characters- This is a character driven book. The way Sera and Nyktos have matured after the events of the last book, is commendable. Ending- Even though I liked the cliffhanger, the ending as an overall felt underwhelming. It was also a bit predictable. The Queen’s trusted Lady, Lady Kala, enters, announcing that the Priests expect the Primal’s arrival soon. Lady Kala leads Sera through the winding halls of the Temple. Two Shadow Priests open doors for the Lady and Sera to reveal a circular room lit by hundreds of candles. There is a crescent moon carved into the two thrones made of shadowstone on the dais of the room, and Sera has a birthmark that looks exactly like the carving. Her mother, step-father ( Ernald), step-sister ( Ezmeria "Ezra"), and Tavius enter the chamber. Sir Holland, the knight of the Royal Guard, was not allowed to be there, as it would reveal that Sera was not the sacrificial lamb, but rather the wolf in disguise. The seconds turned to minutes and the Primal still hadn’t arrived. Suddenly, the ground began to shake, mist appeared, and then a male was standing in front of the dais. The Primal announces that he does not need a Consort and then disappears. Sera’s mother slaps her and then claims that Sera has failed them.
