About this deal

There's also Khayon's mention of how the surviving Traitor Primarchs came to accept Abaddon's place as Warmaster. Khayon only relates that some accepted it more willingly than others, that Magnus had to be forced to his knees before he would and Mortarion tried to kill them. Telemachon Lyras - III Legion warrior, born of Terra. Subcommander of the Emperor’s Children 16th, 40th and 51st Companies warband, and captain of the warship Threat of Rapture. Framing Story: Khayon is telling the story to an Inquisitorial transcription servitor and later to Inquisitors themselves.

Sigismund was the first captain of the Imperial Fists Legion during the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy eras. Sigismund was a name that echoed through the Great Crusade even before the darkness of the Horus Heresy made him the stuff of legends. Sigismund led a squad of Templar Brethren that accompanied his Primarch in a boarding action to rescue survivors of the crippled Eisenstein, under the command of Battle-Captain Nathaniel Garro, formerly of the Death Guard, who had brought word of Warmaster Horus' perfidy to Rogal Dorn following his treacherous actions during the Istvaan III Atrocity. Following these startling revelations, Dorn went into temporary isolation to take some time to absorb the gravity of such dire portents. Batman Gambit: Abaddon reveals that he sent Sargon counting on Falkus summoning Khayne and Lheor to aid him and the three of them acting just like they did, unable to resist the prize that is the Vengeful Spirit. Falkus Kibre, ‘Widowmaker’ - XVI Legion warrior, born of Cthonia. Chieftain of the Duraga kal Esmejhak warband, and commander of the warship Baleful Eye. Former commander of the Justaerin. Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Lampshaded and deconstructed as part of Khayon's explanation of Chaos Legions to the Inquisition. Despite the enormous power given by sorcery, god-blessings, daemonic allies, experience, and corrupted technology, Chaos Astartes are... well, chaotic and this has huge disadvantages - they have no formal supply lines, no dedicated manufacturing ability save for Dark Mechanicus forge-worlds that tend to serve single patrons or themselves, and very little ability to build, repair, or rearm their fleets within the Eye. This is all before you take into account that practically all Chaos warbands in the Eye of Terror have longstanding grudges or feuds with each other, and are usually fighting and stealing from each other. Khayon emphasises this by saying that the Chaos Legions can't even feed their forces because they don't have any real agriculture or food production.

Wont go into any more details but .... let me just say Fabius Bile also shows up here, and what a cameo. There Is No Kill Like Overkill: Khayon recalls that he obliterated Eyarik Born-in-Fire by dismantling him at the molecular level. Mind you, he was in no condition to actually fight the VI Legion champion at the time. Do you love everything Warhammer? Do you devour any bits of lore available? Do you care about the world and its characters? If not, then you won't like this. This book is for people who eat and breathe Warhammer 40k.

Telemachon Lyras looks like just another Slaanesh-worshiping psychopath at first. However, it's revealed he does seek a purpose beyond hedonism and most prominently is the first character to get the Anamnesis to show human emotion by giving a surprisingly heartfelt account of Chemos's legends. One of the elements which most enthralled me about this book was the way the author takes the established 40k lore about the Traitor Legions, the Eye of Terror, the nature of daemons and runs with it. The way characters from different Legions interact and display their distinct aims and perspectives is engaging. The portrayal of daemons in ways that are far more personal and visceral than the limited range we see on the tabletop version of 40k is simply delicious and I want so much more of that.
