There are several species of toucans that are listed as vulnerable or near threatened by the IUCN, including the Channel-billed Toucan (Ramphastos vitellinus), the White-throated Toucan (Ramphastos tucanus), and the Chestnut-eared Aracari (Pteroglossus castanotis). The main threats to these species are habitat loss and fragmentation due to deforestation and human activities, as well as hunting and poaching for their colorful beaks. Agile in both climbing and swimming, the tayra is omnivorous, feeding on fruits, small mammals, birds, and insects. With relatively poor eyesight, the species hunts mainly by scent, capturing its prey using its speed and agility. The tayra is typically solitary, but has also been observed in small groups.

Toucans are often kept as pets, but they require specialized care and a large amount of space to thrive. In some countries, it is illegal to keep toucans as pets. Despite their large size, toucans have small tongues that are often described as “brush-like” or “fringed.”Most of the 170 or so species of poison dart frog have brightly-coloured skin. This acts as a warning to potential predators that the frogs are poisonous. There are 19 species of macaw. Several of these, including the hyacinth macaw, great green macaw and scarlet macaw, are found in rainforests. Leopards are incredibly strong, and are known to carry their prey up trees. (They have to do this, otherwise lions and hyenas might try to steal it from them!)

Although many different species of toucans are found throughout America, Toco Toucans are specifically native to South America. They are widely distributed throughout the continent, along with some islands of the Caribbean. Blue morphos feed (among other things) on rotting fruit, which they find on the floor of rainforests in South and Central America. A: Toucans can be kept as pets, but they require specialized care and a large amount of space to thrive. In some countries, it is illegal to keep toucans as pets.

Can tigers see in the dark?
