My lads schools never did this and I personally wasn't satisfied with this as DS has co-ordination issues. He wanted something to do alone at home as he's aware & upset he's behind his peers - this for us is satisfying his need. It's horrible as a Mum when your kid becomes aware of difference in this way. All of these resources and guidance sheets are designed, created and tested by experienced primary educators. This means that you can feel confident using our reliable and high-quality handwriting programme to help your children master handwriting skills.Using a tried and tested programme designed specifically for children aged eight to 13 years who have problems with their handwriting, this guide provides an effective source of help and guidance for teachers, teaching assistants and therapists.

How do you raise children who love to write? Jennifer Hallissy believes that if you give children a solid foundation of writing basics, they will develop a love of writing that lasts a lifetime. In this book, she shares the secrets for supporting young writers, from the smallest of scribblers to middle-schoolers mastering script. You play an important role in nurturing your child's writing development. You are your child's first writing teacher, and their most important writing role model. From teaching your child how to hold a pencil and form the letters of the alphabet, to creating writing spaces and meaningful writing rituals at home, this book gives you all of the information and inspiration you need to raise a confident writer. Fifty-two playful activities are presented as ways to invite your child to write. Each activity offers specific suggestions to meet the needs of Scribblers (pre-writers), Spellers (emerging writers), Storytellers (beginner writers), and Scholars (more experienced young writers)—providing the just-right combination of fun and functional skill development. The Write Start is a treasure trove of irresistible ideas that will help you introduce your child to the wonderful world of writing, now, and for years to come. The ability to produce fluent, legible handwriting with ease is something that affects attainment in most areas of the curriculum, yet many children continue to struggle with this vital skill. Over 400 carefuly graded exercises and activities develop hand-eye co-ordination, form constancy, spatial organization, figure-ground discrimination, orientation and laterality. urn:oclc:62917037 Republisher_date 20130401093108 Republisher_operator [email protected] Scandate 20130401014215 Scanner scribe7.shenzhen.archive.org Scanningcenter shenzhen Worldcat (source edition) Write from the start: Unique Programme to Develop the Fine Motor and Perceptual Skills Necessary for Effective Handwriting comes in 3 volumes.

op, if the ep thinks that your ds has fine motor difficulties generally, then an an ot referral would actually be more beneficial than just recommending a programme (ep's aren't occupational therapists, so wouldn't usually be speaking from a position of authority on such matters - more of a braod brush approach). after a more thorough assessment of actual difficulties, the ot would be able to put a more tailored support programme in place. it may not just be writing programme that would be beneficial per se, but an ot would look at seating (some children use wedges or wobble cushions etc) or even a writing slope, or a whole variety of different pencil grips etc. there are also lots of exercises (not writing exercises, more of the basic strengthening variety) that might be helpful. It is worth noting that most ordinary kids over there start this system at age 7 & are writing fluently by 8 as that is standard practice over there.
