It was my boys who were the catalyst for this book. Most parents I suspect want to help their teenagers and young adults by giving them some worldly advice. Very often it’s hard to find the right situation to have an adult discussion with them. Trapping them in the car on a long journey is a great time to raise awkward subjects but even then the tone usually turns to ‘Dad!, I don’t want to hear this’ and so either the earphones go in or the silence wins the day. Grahame's poems range from making your first Pom-pom in junior school to understanding the struggle life has with death in the poem Old Friends. Grahame hopes that though his writing, that something, just one nugget will inspire some readers or help them improve their lives in some way. This was a beautifully-written, enchanting book that took me to another place. The characters were completely relatable and it was a story with a purpose. It had echoes of the Midnight Library for me in terms of the headspace it put me in, but its own unique voice. This book touched my heart and soul.
