About this deal

If you're after a heart-warming book filled to the brim with hope and humanity, then Julietta Henderson's charming The Funny Thing About Norman Foreman should be your next read . . . A life-affirming tale. * CultureFly *

I cannot recommend this book enough. This book is just what I needed at just the right time. I could read books like this all day every day. I will be watching with great anticipation for more fabulous works from Henderson. On title alone, you could be forgiven for thinking that The Funny Thing About Norman Foreman by Julietta Henderson is one of those deliciously escapist slice-of-life British adventures where idiosyncratically good things happen to people who really need some good to come into their beleaguered lives. With the help of a very switched on octogenarian named Leonard, the three of them get in Leonard's vintage car and make their way to Edinburgh, with some stop-overs along the way, where Norman can perform his comedy numbers.Well, that's the way my mother told it anyway. The way my father told it, the doctors gathered around the incubator every morning to discuss whether they'd be having my large intestine or my liver for their lunch, and whether it'd be with chips or salad. And that right there might tell you almost everything you need to know about my parents. Norman has psoriasis; this leaves his skin with red, itchy and dry patches that are sensitive to touch. Norman has always been a loner until he met Jax. Norman and Jax became the best of friends and had a dream of one day performing at the Edinburgh Fringe, but Norman is left to dream alone after Jax suddenly passes away. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this. It’s a very good, enjoyable read with some genuine content and I can recommend it.

What a wonderful tale!! Except for Sadie’s obnoxious boss, Henderson gives the readers a cast of characters to love, to laugh with, to ache for, to cheer on. It’s surely impossible not to fall in love with a boy like this: “I think maybe all the parts of me that were good were actually made of Jax. And I think about that a lot because I’m pretty sure it’s true.” To read The Funny Thing About Norman Foreman is to befriend three underdogs and join in on their zigging and zagging adventure. I wanted to get into the car with Norman, Sadie, and Leonard. This trio will melt your heart, lift your spirit, and make you want call your nearest and dearest to tell them how much you love them. The Funny Thing about Norman Foreman was a tender, occasionally funny tale of resilience, and about following your dreams. Sadie knows she won't win Mother of the Year and she's not proud she doesn't know who her son's father is. But when she finds Norman's list, all she wants is to see her son smile again. So, enlisting the help of eccentric friend Leonard - an 84-year-old veteran with superior planning skills and a thirst for adventure! - they set off on a pilgrimage to Edinburgh, making a few stops to find Norman's dad along the way.Norman, who has long fancied himself a stand-up comic in the making, an heir to his grandfather’s crown of almost-comedy great – in truth he was nothing of the kind but Norman is not aware of his antecedent’s full history – is excited to be realising a longheld dream to perform comedy, part of a grand five-year plan that he and his best friend Jax cooked up long ago, both certain their future lay with making people laugh, just like the comedy greats they idolised. Norman Foreman will capture your heart. His story had me in tears, both of laughter and sorrow, as he bravely battles against the odds to achieve his dream. The Funny Thing About Norman Foreman is a book full of hope, humour and kindness, with one of the most endearing central characters I've met in a long time. An utter delight! * Sarah Haywood, bestselling author of THE CACTUS * Iris and I were selling the first Tandy TRS-80s out of our shop before most people in Penzance even knew what a personal computer was.” Sensational debut by Australian writer Julietta Henderson... This is one novel that meaningfully earns the description of "feel-good".' Apple Books Review
