This coincides with my other difficulty with the book: there is just too much information for the average parent. This book covers so many topics, that much of the information was irrelevant to me, and only served to cause mild paranoia. Reading this book made me more paranoid than I had the right to be. I was worried about all of the rare and uncommon diseases, calculating my daughter's chance of SIDS, and being altogether too calculating about what to do the first year. What should you do if you think your baby is not meeting growth o r developmental milestones, when they should? First, says Shu, trust your instincts. “If you really feel like something’s wrong, then talk to your doctor about it because if there is a problem, we want to catch it as soon as we can," she says. "Early intervention is best, and you know your child better than anyone.”

Separation anxiety is also common (and perfectly normal) around this age, which may cause your baby to wake up looking for reassurance from you during the night. Great physical advances mean there’s no surface too high or cabinet too deep to deter your 10-month-old. WhatToExpect.com, How Can You Wean Your Baby Off Night Feedings and When Should You Start?, August 2022. All that, and a new cover, too, thanks to Lennox, our new cover baby. He’s the baby of the baby who started it all—and one of my proudest joys yet.

Chill for 30 mins, then freeze 1-2 weeks in single-door refrigerator (3-6 months for models that freeze foods solid).

Dance with your darling to some favorite tunes (you won’t even notice you’re getting in a workout!). And not only will your little one love the movement, you'll also foster a passion for music. (No head-banging, Mommy, no matter how radical the song might be … and don't pump up the volume too much — tiny ears are extra sensitive.)Your baby will probably be able to bear weight on his legs when held upright and may even be ready to hit the road at a crawl (though babies who spend little time on their tummies during playtime may reach this milestone later — or skip straight to cruising — and that’s not cause for concern). If you're not breastfeeding, the engorgement should subside within a few days. In this case, you'll want to wear a snug-fitting bra to minimize engorgement. I had an older edition of this book which I found helpful, because like 60% of advice for new moms not only changes wildly from decade to decade, but is frequently contradictory. If you are only reading newly printed material, you are missing out on CONTEXT. The specific edition I had (2nd?) Was concerned about baby's cholesterol levels. No one in the year 2019 or 2020 has ever inquired about my or the baby's cholesterol.

If you’re not able to breastfeed, and your baby has a medical condition that requires human milk (including prematurity, failure to thrive, an intolerance to formula or allergies), there are ways to get donated breast milk from other moms through a milk bank.Always, Arlene Eisenberg, my first partner in What to Expect and always my most valued. Your legacy of caring and compassion continues to shape, inform, inspire, and, of course, live on through the next generation of What to Expect and beyond. You will always be loved and never be forgotten. All my family, especially Sandee Hathaway, Howard Eisenberg, Abby and Norman Murkoff, and Victor Shargai. Health benefits. Plenty of perks here: Women who breastfeed have a slightly lower risk of developing uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, and premenopausal breast cancer. They’re also less likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis than women who don’t breastfeed. Plus, women who nurse have a lower risk of developing osteoporosis later in life than women who have never breastfed.
