About this deal

Next, visit one or more of the town's traditional markets, selling everything from flowers and olive oils to produce, cheeses, and local crafts, for a taste of local culture in Antibes. A very heart-warming read. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The story of Ariana’s family and how she inherited a hotel after her grandmother’s Death, and the story of Gabriel’s family and how they lost the hotel that Ariana inherited. Ariana’s family is of Greek heritage and very wealthy. Gabriel’s family built a hotel from scratch, but due to his father’s wayward spending on gambling and alcohol, they lost the hotel. Ariana inherits a lot of her grandmother’s estate, including a very special ring. The ring originally belonged to Gabriel’s mother. It ends up being her engagement ring. Could not put the book down, a captivating read. An easy read, great descriptions of the areas. I felt as though I was there with the story. Glenice, VIC, 5 Stars

This is Carol Kirkwood’s second novel although the first that I have read. I enjoyed it as an easy, lightweight read. Ariana, a Greek heiress, is surprised to be bequeathed a hotel in the Riviera by her late Grandmother. Equally surprised because no-one in her family was even aware her Grandmother owned it. The hotel, now quite dilapidated, is currently being run by Gabriel du Lac, who believed his family still retained ownership. His Mother lives reclusively, in the premium, top floor suite and keeps secret how, and why, the hotel was lost to the family. Gabriel is not willing to hand over the hotel without a fight. At the time of gaining ownership of the hotel, Ariana is trying to distance herself from a scandal in LA, plus Jonny, a bad boy who she has an “on again/off again” relationship. Add to this, Elizabeth and Robert, two glamorous A list movie stars, married but heading for divorce and Estee a dancer in a cheap nightclub, trying to earn money to support her daughter – there is plenty to keep you interested! A perfect read to enjoy over the Summer! Sue, VIC, 4 Stars Plan to arrive town in the early morning to make the most of your day there. Start with a walk around Old Town, a Provencal-style village whose fortified medieval walls, colorful market, winding, quiet streets, shops and restaurants are full of photogenic appeal. Pay a visit to the Villa Noailles, a 1920-era modernist house that once hosted the likes of painter Salvador Dali and photographer Man Ray. The sprawling house now holds a small museum dedicated to the history Hyères as well as a gallery that shows various exhibits throughout the year. All I needed was to be on a sun lounger by a pool with a spritz in hand while reading The Hotel on the Riviera by Carol Kirkwood. This novel was absolutely brilliant to be swept away to the glitz and glam life of the rich and famous on the French Riviera. The Hotel du Soleil in Cannes is the setting of this novel and it holds secrets of the past for Gabriel du Lac and his family. When this hotel comes into ownership to Greek heiress, Ariana Theodosis, it is up to her to unveil the family secret so she can understand why she has inherited it, while falling in love with the handsome and ever charming Gabriel. While the novel unfolds, we are also introduced to characters Elizabeth and Robert who are actors with a marriage crisis and to Estee and Stefan who work in the hotel so there are many love stories in this novel. I loved being transported to the French Riviera of Cannes and Nice and to the countryside of Grasse. The novel is written very well and makes a good book to read while on holidays or as an escape of ordinary life. Raffaela, VIC, 5 Stars This would be a great read for a holiday, with its descriptions of the French Riviera and the Hollywood glamour epitomised by the Chappells. Carol, however, also lets us see that a life lived in the spotlight isn't as glamorous in reality.

Around 2 p.m. (or even earlier during late fall and winter to seize more daylight hours), take a car or taxi to the nearby Calanques National Park, a stunning protected area of natural beauty. Make sure to wear sturdy shoes with good grip for hiking, a bottle of water, and bring a swimsuit for swimming and water sports in warm-weather months.

South of Sidmouth is Budleigh Salterton, whose sea wall is the setting of Sir John Milais’s’ famous painting ‘The Boyhood of Raleigh’ If you’re looking for the perfect summer holiday read, then you can’t go far wrong with ‘The Hotel On The Riviera’ Carol Kirkwood. Don't Miss

After taking in the sights of the port and town, grab a table for lunch on the marina at restaurants such as La Villa Madie or Le Grand Bleu. When we meet Greek heiress Ariana Theodosis she is arriving in Ithos, Greece to see her ailing grandmother. After her grandmother passes it comes to light that she owned Hotel du Soleil, on the French Riviera which she bequeathed to Ariana. Ariana has been living in LA trying to make it as an actress but has done more partying than acting roles. She sees managing and taking responsibility of the Hotel as a way to prove herself to her father. However, what she doesn’t expect is to meet the hotels current occupants. Gabriel grew up at the Hotel and considers it his home and his father’s legacy. As far as he is concerned it belongs to his family and his mother Madame du Lac so he isn’t prepared for Ariana’s revelation that she is now the owner. How are Ariana’s grandmother and Gabriel’s mother connected? How did Ariana’s grandmother come to own the hotel? What secrets is Madame du Lac hiding from Gabriel? If you are looking for a summer read full of glitz, glamour, stunning locations, family secrets and romance, then look no further than The Hotel on the Riviera. Day two is already here! It's time to take advantage of Nice's proximity to other beautiful spots on the eastern Riviera.

Drive or take the train from Nice to Monte Carlo (heading out early in the morning to allow for a full day of exploration). Stroll around the world-famous Port, with its superyachts and remarkable sea views—ones you may recognize from James Bond films and other movies. If desired, take a peek inside the iconic Casino, a palatial 19th-century building that also houses the Monaco Opera and Ballet. The Hotel on the Riviera is a great escape novel that beholds the glitz and glamour of the very rich. The novel follows Greek heiress and aspiring actress Ariana Theodosis, and how her inheritance of the Hotel du Soleil on the French Riviera slowly uncovers damning secrets. It of course entails a romance, allowing for an easy and sometimes predicable read that gives you a break from the seriousness of the real world. However, whilst beautifully written, I did find it a bit confusing at the beginning of the book to remember all the characters that were introduced and where they all fit in as I continued the novel. Overall, I would say that this is a lounge by the pool novel that would be perfect for dreamers of romantic European escapades that would enjoy an easy read. Charlotte, NSW, 4 Stars I enjoyed reading this story, particularly as it reintroduced Ariana, familiar to those who have read Carol's debut novel 'Under a Greek Moon'. Then, Ariana was spoiled and entitled, but this novel sees her mature emotionally as she comes to terms with her inheritance and the feelings she develops for Gabriel. The formerly quiet fishing village became a popular destination for tourists after French film star Brigitte Bardot starred in a 1956 movie shot in the town, "And God Created Woman." Since then, it's been a favorite among visitors looking for a slice of iconic Riviera style. Yet there's more to the town than the sunscreen bottles and movies suggest—it's rich in history, culture, and quiet beauty, especially during off-season.

However, if your ‘cup of tea; is simple, beautiful escapism and a peak into how the other half live - fairy tale style…….you will adore it and gobble it up! I’m just more of a realist and like the main characters to be flawed and ‘less than perfect’ which frankly we all are! When her grandmother unexpectedly leaves her a hotel in Cannes in her will, it gives Arianna a push to change the path of her life. However, the hotel and the du Lac family, who ha previously owned it are holding many secrets and it is not going to be a straightforward move for Arianna. Hotelier Gabriel du Lac’s family have owned the hotel for decades – and he has no intention of giving it up for a beautiful stranger.
