The 6K features built-in LUTs such as Extended Video, Film to Video, Film to REC.2020 and works with industry-standard 17 and 33-point 3D LUT files. The camera also features an adjustable tilt 5” touchscreen LCD with 1500 nits of brightness, as well as a mini XLR audio input so that you can record with a professional microphone for the best audio possible. The biggest change between the 6K G2 and the first generation BMPCC6K is the new 5″ tilting touchscreen display – which in our experience is a pretty big deal, especially when shooting cinema-style footage. Since shooting cinema-style often includes more drastic camera angles than straight-up video (low-angle shots, we’re looking at you), the tilting display really helps you keep an eye on your shot without either having to crouch or resort to an external viewfinder. x 2592, 4608 x 1920, 4096 x 2304, 4096 x 2160, 3840 x 2160, 3072 x 2560, 2048 x 1152, 2048 x 1080 and 1920 x 1080

The interface is a joy to use, however, and puts the poky little menus on mirrorless and DSLR cameras to shame. With big buttons and simple swipes to go through settings screens, it’s easy to use. If you’re already familiar with the original BMPCC 6K, you may already know all the basic specs that carry over to the G2. But just in case you need a refresher, here’s a recap: Iris wheel and touchscreen slider for manual iris adjustment on electronically controllable lenses, irisbutton for instant auto iris settings on compatiblelenses. Screen DimensionsIts price made it an excellent choice for students, new cinematographers, and users of higher-end gear that needed a b-camera or crash camera. However, it was not known for its robust feature set or durability (and it would very easily overheat), but it did everything you could need at that price and did it with a fantastic menu system to boot.

The ND filters in the 6K Pro are motorized, although not variable. That’s not uncommon, and the ND filters in the Sony FX series of cameras function similarly. But the fact they exist is really nice, as the mechanized ND filter makes on-the-fly adjustments easy and having the filter in the body means you can adjust incoming light for any lens mounted to the camera. DCI standards: 4KDCIp/23.98 / 4KDCIp/24 / 4KDCIp/25 / 4KDCIp/29.97 / 4KDCIp/30 / 4KDCIp/50 / 4KDCIp/59.94 / 4KDCIp/60 Infamously, the Achilles heel of this camera series is poor battery life. The battery grip allows three batteries to be loaded which is a big help, although still not likely enough to get through a day of shooting. You are therefore faced with purchasing an ample supply of the petite standard batteries and chargers or adding something big and chunky like a battery base or v-mount solution. Two of the biggest differences still in place between the 6K G2 and the 6K Pro are that the BMPCC 6K Pro has built-in ND filters and a brighter display – both of which can be quite meaningful to those who do a lot of shooting outdoors. Of course, you can always add ND filters to your lenses or get a brighter external monitor if these are issues for you – but they’ll add additional cost and bulk to your kit.The Panasonic mentioned above S5 II also has a much less rolling shutter, which I found to be a major issue on the BMPCC 6K G2. Many hybrid cameras with full-frame sensors have less rolling shutter than this camera does. It’s easier to start with what the 6K G2 does not have relative to the 6K Pro than what it shares in common with that more powerful device. The 6K Pro has built-in neutral density (ND) filters, and the 6K G2 does not. Iris wheel and touchscreen slider for manual aperture adjustments of electronically controllable lenses / Iris button for instant automatic aperture adjustments of compatible lenses With in-body stabilization and stabilized lenses, a cinematographer can get good stabilization in-camera without worrying about post-processing.

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 Review - PetaPixel

Despite looking like a handheld camera, this is one that’s going to be most at home on a tripod, on a meaty gimbal or on a rig with other accessories like mics, storage and a monitor. The 6K G2 produces stunning image quality, accurate skin tones and faithful colour reproduction. This is thanks to the same generation, 5 colour science that is featured in the URSA Mini Pro 12K. You get a new dynamic 12-bit gamma curve designed to capture more colour data in the highlights and shadows, for better-looking images. There is no hot or cold shoe built into the camera, which is a bit unfortunate as that’s a common rigging point for mics and external monitors (although the rear LCD is wonderfully large and mitigates the need for an external monitor in many cases).Automatically populated lens data from electronic Micro Four Thirds lenses. Automatic recording of camera settings and slate data such as project, scene number, take and specialnotes. Controls As you can see, the 6K continues to be a fairly substantial powerhouse of a cinema camera – especially if you’re not ready to spend considerably more for an Ursa or Canon C-Series. If you’re in the market for a new 6K and don’t need the pro, get the G2. We don’t have too much to say about the image quality because we had to raid the cupboards for a couple of EF lenses to use it with, and they weren’t the best examples of modern optical science. The other big change is the addition of a second mini XLR port, which is something we personally have been wishing for as it allows for multiple camera placements (or stereo recording) without having to limit yourself to only using a 3.5mm mic if you want more than one audio source. Focus button triggers auto focus when using compatible lenses with focus servo. Touch and hold on LCD determines focus region and triggers autofocus. Iris Control

Blackmagic 6K G2 Review Roundup (BMPCC 6K 2nd Generation)

The highlight of the physical design is the massive LCD screen which provides enough size to evaluate footage without an external reader. This also showcases the company’s excellent menu system, a clean, well-organized, and easy-to-use layout that I wish every company in the photo and video industry would copy. The 6K G2 can take high-res still images of up to 21.2MP and are saved as fully uncompressed DNG frames for maximum image quality.
