This book had all the adventure I was looking for and some of the language simply had my dying-like the phrase "thrashing threes". Grey and Himel fight back, taking on a President with no moral compunction and a belief that he can do whatever he wants without repercussion. The authors created an interesting urgency around the political dilemma, well-timed plot-twists, and connecting the multiple storylines in enjoyable ways. King uses the phrase keeping it on the down-low in a way that suggests he probably doesn’t understand how this phrase is currently used—and has been used for quite a while.It tried to ramp up the [predictable] action, but it wasn't enough for me to salvage the weak turn it took. Unlike Stephen King, who regularly unleashes the hounds of hell upon Trump, Patterson has largely restricted himself to sighs of disappointment. I did like the story line but it was a little slow for my liking and took to long to get to the point. While dramas like House of Cards deliver us this message with nuance and as a slow-burn (that awful final season aside), Blowback is an adrenaline rush from beginning to end. This fast paced novel about a President overstepping his bounds will grab your attention from the get-go and you will not want to let go of this book and stop reading until the very end.A president who has let power go to his head, a CIA Director who tries to wrest control before the US enters a war it cannot win, and a number of operatives who are but pawns on the game board, all players in this piece. Every new James Patterson book claims to be the author's "best thriller in years," although depending on the coauthor, his works seldom rise above average. Patterson and Charbonnet (the Crazy House series) reunite for this continuation of the Maximum Ride saga, set a decade after the events of 2015’s Maximum Ride Forever.

In fact, I read most of this book in one day which I know is not unusual for most but for me it is quite a statement. Blowback, by James Patterson and Brendan DuBois is a story of an American President losing his mind. The narrative, while slow at times, proves to move things along and offers up scary insights of what could be, while hinting at the train wreck that might have been under Trump (making mention of it throughout).
