I'm in the process of reviewing another little doll whose charm is *greatly* enhanced by the available themes, so I've been thinking a lot about this issue. The three dolls I have are incredible, and I like that you can have both male and female characters. I was instantly drawn to the dolls because of their wigs (which remind me of Liv dolls), their manageable size, and their refreshingly gender-neutral presentation. I’d observe what they wore to find a commonality in how people, regardless of gender, style themselves. As a nonbinary person myself, I'm also very happy about how this line normalizes gender fluidity/non-conformity.

Y'know, you could try painting the vinyl edges with some cute color like pink or blue, and maybe then the edges would make convincing headbands. An 8-year-old who considers himself gender fluid and whose favorite color is black one week, pink the next, Shi’a sometimes plays with his younger sister’s dolls at home, but they’re “girly, princess stuff,” he says dismissively. Generation Alpha, the most diverse generation in America in all senses of the term, is likely to grow up with even more liberal views on gender. This would be excellent for storage, and also for donating to the Goodwill or gifting the doll to a child.

The details in the clothing make the clothes look more authentic, and therefore, more relatable to kids. In a world where ideas are a hot commodity, what is equally (if not more) important is the execution of that idea. The articulation on the dolls is impressive as they have movement at the head, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle. However, it’s hard to find it, so either of these options is worthwhile doing if you get this problem.

This was advice two of my mentors gave meat the beginning of my career, which was the complete opposite of the “advice” I had been previously given by other industry professionals. This blank canvas is the perfect starting point to let children's imaginations run wild and create whoever they wish. It's no secret that the marketing of play dolls is often heavily gendered, but I think the casual presentation of the "these dolls can be anyone and wear anything" is a step in the right direction. Creatable World is a customizable doll line that serves as a blank canvas for kids to create their own characters with endless combinations, all in one box. I really worry that the cultural concept of nonbinary is this singular third androgynous gender, which is what this doll is portraying.
