Dialogue reproduction is crystal-clear and well-prioritized above the action from start to finish while a solid, hearty low-end provides the visuals and music with ample and weighty bass, making for a great listen at home.

Certainly they look good in their black leather '80s attire (Sutherland even manages to make a bleached mullet look cool), but none of the tragedy of innocence corrupted is conveyed by the narrative. Soon after arriving, Michael gets involved with a hell-raising motorcycle gang of vampires with a charismatic leader (Kiefer Sutherland). I wasn't expecting such a noticeable leap over the standard DVD (which Warner re-issued a few years back to solid reviews), and am quite impressed with how good this remaster looks. But all of that is banished with the now clearly observed wonderful twinkling highlights of the glitter that cover the Frog Brothers after their staking of one of the vamps. And that sums the film up perfectly – for a movie that is so achingly 80s in its style and sensibilities, it seems to have, excuse the pretentious terminology, transcended its origins and its era and become one of the defining movies for teenage cool, no matter when or where you were a teenager.For this UHD edition, the same set of bonus features are ported over and contained on the Blu-ray, but the audio commentary is shared between both discs. This might have been ripe for a new Dolby Atmos track, but the same DTS HD Master Audio mix from the Blu-ray serves as the main audio track here. After four decades and countless viewings, The Lost Boys remains a personal favorite that I can still watch and adore with the same level of admiration as I did when I was a teen.
