The story is sweet and tragic and addicting, still I struggled with it as the mfc is so damaged in a way that was heartbreaking.I loved the little easter egg we got with one of her other characters, though this is definitely a stand alone. His rich baritone has garnered a solid fan base and has allowed him to range from paranormal romance to military romance, from "motorcycle bad boy" to "boardroom dom. But, when Jude steps in to help Skylar, they both feel the respect, trust, chemistry and toxic temptation when the ‘fake’ becomes real.

I have an age gap relationship myself, so I know there are circumstances that can lead it to be successful. But her character arc was traumatic, yet that didn’t add anything to her overall personality/maturity. There’s a push and a pull as Jude wrestles with the rights and wrongs of his growing attraction to Skylar. They marry, the girl moves in, and from there, the author could have built a passionate romance out of their forced proximity and married state.

The book was over a hundred pages too long, and by the end, I was no longer invested in this couple, just tired with the endless seesaw of up and down between them. Our mouths linger breathlessly when they shouldn’t—warm, and damp— before we slowly, reluctantly, pull apart. Then boom we're hit with another one near the end because that's what they think we all want as part of the HEA - nah. After Bryan informs her that he does not want to have sex with her, Tonya agrees to help find Masha, but tells him that she will one day force him to have sex with her, after trying to have sex with him one more time.
